Our Coastal Patrol Yorketown Radio Base is operated by one of our Life Members, Colin.
Colin has been a radio base operator with Coastal Patrol since the age of 16, when he obtained his Restricted Radio Operator’s Certificate of Proficiency in Radiotelephony.
Originally, the radio base was located at Point Souttar, west of Point Turton, and was known as Coastal Patrol Point Souttar.
In addition to our established radio bases, Colin also has a mobile radio base that can be deployed to locations where there is no permanent radio base or where the main base is unable to provide coverage.
The mobile radio base provides an important communications capability during emergency and search-and-rescue operations, allowing radio communications to be established in areas that may otherwise have limited or no coverage. It can be deployed as required to support Coastal Patrol operations and provide an additional link between vessels, patrol crews and other emergency services.
If you need a MF/HF or VHF marine radio qualification, Colin is also an independent invigilator for the Office of Maritime Communications and can conduct examinations for the Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP) and the Short Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (SROCP). These marine radio qualifications are a legal requirement for operating an MF/HF or VHF marine radio.
